My Greatest XI

Below is a list of my favourite 11 Liverpool players ever and for kicks I have thrown in three subs (like the old days when a team could only have three men on the bench!). This is not the greatest Liverpool team of all-time, to get into it I had to have seen them play (re-runs not included) and they had to be pretty good as well as just being likable. I have stuck with the traditional 4-4-2 and the traditional 1-11 numbers. Feel free to disagree but know that in the end I am right!
1. GK: Pepe Reina - Edges out Brucie simply because Brucie’s best days were earlier in the 80s and he is the best they have had since.
2. RD: Jamie Carrigher - Played full-back in his early days. Heart & Soul in the back line.
3. LD: John-Arne Riise - Hardest shot of all-time. Won his share of trophies and a solid player in his day.
5. CD: Alan Hansen - The best defender of them all. Only watched him in his final few years but still a legend.
6. CD: Sami Hyypia - An absolute Rock. You can count his bad games on one hand over ten years.
7. RW: Steve McManaman - Slick, fast and skilled. The guy was a wizzard with the ball at his feet.
4. CM: Jamie Redknapp - Baring injury he would have been at Anfield for 10+ years. Excellent passer of the ball.
8. CM: Steven Gerrard - One of the all-time best, a great leader and scorer of the most important goals.
10. LW: John Barnes - The clubs best winger ever and way ahead of his time. My favourite player ever.
9. CF: Robbie Fowler - Only Ian Rush was as deadly inside the 18-yard box. Scorer of great goals.
11. CF: Michael Owen - Speed and Goals and owned the 2001 F.A. Cup Final. I’ll love him forever for that alone.
Subs:
12. D: Rob Jones - Injuries cut his career short but if not for the injuries Gary Neville would have rarely played for England. That’s how good Jones was.
13. F: Ian Rush - Although past his prime in the 90s still could score the goals. Mentored Robbie Fowler.
14. F: Fernando Torres - In a few years I have no doubt he’ll make the starting XI.
Note that this line-up is subject to change at any time!
