‘Atta Boy Chris Hoy

December 14th, 2008 by Ricky Blayney

Representing the fine minority sport that is Cycling, Chris Hoy won the Sports Personality of the Year award tonight. 4 of the 10 on the shortlist were cyclists and they didn’t half do the sport proud over the summer Olympics and on the night. Any one of the four could have won but Chris really was the deserving winner. Three gold medals in one Olympics is quite the achievement and I wouldn’t rule out more in 2012 in London. The year of 2008 in British Sport really was a golden one for Cycling and hopefully this puts it on the map.

No cycling so far this week

October 28th, 2008 by Ricky Blayney

It is only Tuesday but so far the bike has been resigned to the garage. The temperature has been dropping to mid-single figures and the rain has been falling meaning I am not for cycling home. I have the gear and I suppose yes I could do it and maybe I should but instead I am holding out for the rise in temperature that is expected by around Thursday. I am still hoping to get another week or two out of it before the bike goes into lockdown for the winter. I said when I started this cycling home from work malarky that I would be pleased if I got to the end of October out of it and so long as Thursday and Friday are a-go then I will have succeeded.

Unfortunately that wasn’t able to happen yesterday when a Northerly wind belew in at freezing temperatures that forced me into getting the bus home. Today I packed warmer cycling gear but thankfully the weather has picked up some and so I ended up carrying most of the extra gear home on my back. The route home is just shy of 12 miles and I had to believe that although it isn’t a lot in doing it often I must be racking the miles up . . . MORE »

The Way of the Bike

September 24th, 2008 by Ricky Blayney

So I have finally got around to giving up the bus and taking up the bike home from work. I throw it into the back of Kim’s uncles car on the way to work and then ride it home. It’s a 12 mile cycle but because of the waiting and the changes on the bus I managed to get home almost 30 minutes quicker than the bus so it is all win win — I don’t feel so guilty about a cold beer in the evening now!
