A night at the Super Cross is a night well spent, but for now, bring on the Blue Jays

With mum and dad over visiting it has been a week of eating out. I’m not sure how my body is reacting to eating on the town and washing it down with beers but I sure as hell am not complaining. It’s been a lot of fun. Each night we’ve been on the town and tonight we’re heading up the CN Tower for a feed in the 360 revolving restaurant. Tomorrow night is the biggie though – the Leafs/Flyers game. I’ll have my Flyers top on and am looking forward to that one. It’ll be mum and dad’s first taste of NHL action. Wednesday will also be my last day of work for the week as I take Thursday and Friday off. I can’t wait for that.

Anyway, what a weekend of sport it was!! I haven’t had time to write much about it, even over on my sports section of the site, but I sure as heck was enjoying it. The F1 season started up with a blast and a few big surprises, Tiger Woods got back to winning ways just in time for the upcoming Masters, the Belfast Giants blew yet another playoffs, Northern Ireland went to the top of their World Cup Qualifying Group and I took in the Super-Cross in the Rogers Centre.

Super-Cross is an outstanding sport as I came to find out. About 25,000 were on hand to watch the event as the Baseball field was transformed into a dirt track for motorbikes. The atmosphere was great, there were pyrotechnics everywhere and everyone was treated to some really intense racing. The heats, the last chance races and then the finals of the two categories went on for about three hours and while the arena filled with dust and petrol fumes thanks to the Rogers Centre roof being closed, nobody seemed to complain too much.

I came out of it a convert to a new sport and will be going back again next time it comes to town. The Rogers Centre is the perfect size for a track like that.

Of course things will be back to normal in the Rogers Centre after the weekend as the dirt gets cleared away and the baseball field exposed in time for the Blue Jays home opener of 2009. Make no mistake; I will be on hand to take that one in. With the good weather ‘apparently’ just around the corner I am seriously excited for the start of the Baseball season.
