A date with the dentist for Halloween

November 1st, 2008 by Ricky Blayney

I woke up on Wednesday morning looked in the mirror and was shocked by what I seen. Yes, you might be saying what is unusual about that but this time there was good reason. My cheek had a huge swelling on the side of it and it didn’t look right. I have to say though the Canadian dental system is swift. Within four hours I was in the chair and getting it looked at. The bad news was that the swelling was from an infection that had gotten into the route of my tooth without my knowledge basically because the nerve had died. The upshot was I required a Route Canal surger ASAP. Happy Halloween.

ASAP meant Friday afternoon and so I was out of work early and off to a specialist to get the job done. What I was expecting was some pain but I felt nothing. Whoever the guy was did a blinding job. I was froozen up, got a little device called a dam put into my mouth and literally lay there trying to stay awake for an hour as the dentist and his assistant hovered above me. After about an hour the job was done, I was sent home, told to watch what I was eating because of the freeze and told to call the 24 hour help line at any time if I had any questions at all. For $1400 I guess you can expect such service.

Yes, $1400 was the price. Thankfully insurance covers the vast majority of that and so I am not going homeless over it and I have to admit the service was top notch.

That evening we went to the movies to see a good show called Changling and I eat my munchies on the right hand side of my mouth while my face un-frooze itself. So far so good though, no further pain.
