Bus, By Bus, By Bus . . . Bring on the Bike

September 16th, 2008 by Ricky Blayney

So the first day of work is down but what a nightmare the travelling part is. It is always too early on the first day to really say what something is going to be like but I can without any hesitation tell you that the travel on them buses will be tough. They are cheap, on time and frequent but anything that takes an hour and fifteen minutes compared to a twenty minute drive is never fun, especially at the end of the day when you just want to get home.

Anyway, I started at 10 a.m. yesterday but generally will work an 8 to 4.30 p.m. day with a half-hour lunch. There is the possibility of getting a lit there in the morning with Kim’s uncle who works in the area and also the bike which right now sits in a shop getting service. It’s due for pick-up on Thursday and then I might consider cycling to work. The office is only 11-12 miles away so it wouldn’t  take to long on side residential streets away from the main traffic to get there.

Talking and doing it are two different things however! This morning leaving the house at 6:40 a.m. it was still dark and pretty cool out even if the temperature later rises into the 20’s.

In other things, fantasy football continues to suffer. I am slowly sliding down the league thanks to a lack of goals from Michael Owen and Robbie Keane. Keane works hard but fantasy football doesn’t reward that. In a game were they can measure yards ran by a players, shouldn’t points be awarded for that? Dirk Kuyt would be on everyones team then! Still, I needed changes and with 30 available for the year, I made 7 straight up! Keane, Owen, Vidic, Johnson, Lescott, Woodgate and Modric out, Sanga, Ferdinand, Carvalho, Elano, Robinho and Zaki in. We’ll see what that does! O.k. thats enough for now!
